Greenridge Metal Works
США
Добавлен 14 май 2018
At Greenridge Metal Works we do everything from machining to wood working. We are primarily a hobby machine shop but we like to do antique and tool restorations. Most of the projects we do are for use in the shop. Me and my two sons do most of the work, they are apprenticing in the machine shop and will eventually take it over. If you like re-purposing old tools and restoring antiques you'll enjoy our videos.
Repairing a Torque Arm, Turning Threads @GreenridgeMetalWorks
This old torque arm needed the threaded portion replaced. the eye was in good condition so I threaded some 1 1/2" 1045 and welded the old eye in place.

Blacksmiths Post Vise Stand Build-off Part One!
Просмотров 25 тыс.4 года назад
In this two part series Levi and Jesse will build themselves post vise stands. We have three blacksmith vises in the shop, one already on a stand one ready to be put on a stand and the third needs to be cleaned up and put on a stand. In part one of this series Levi and Jesse will clean up the third post vise together and Jesse will build his stand. They are going to be quite different in style ...
Shop Talk with Extra Stuff & Junk!

I really didn't expect our channel to reach 7000 subscribers. I owe thanks to you viewers, your comments praise and subscriptions. In this video, I'll talk a little bit about our shop and equipment, a little about what's coming up and a bit about some indexable carbide insert training that Levi and I attended.
Rusty Arbor Press Restoration

This arbor press was in bad shape. It was so rusty it wouldn't work and it was missing parts. In this video I cleaned, stripped repainted and replaced the missing parts to get this arbor press back to working order.
Wilton 12" C-Clamp Restoration, Refurbished & Improved!
Просмотров 25 тыс.4 года назад
I got this 12" Wilton C-clamp at an estate auction along with a few other clamps or just a few dollars. This clamp has a clamping force of 8000 lbs and opens to 12". I decided to refurbish it and modify it a bit too. After grinding the forge seam and polishing it up some I blued it with cold gun bluing then sprayed it with some durable clear coat to protect it from rust. I also made a new swive...
Fabricating a Thor Bench Grinder Guard
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.4 года назад
I got this really neat Thor bench grinder at an estate auction. I love old tools and I love using them in my shop so I decided to restore this grinder and use it! This video is a clip that shows how I made a replacement sheet metal guard for one of the wheels. If you'd like to see the entire rebuild check out my other videos, its in there!
Shop Made Blacksmiths Swage Block Anvil Combo!
Просмотров 596 тыс.4 года назад
We made this swage block for my uncle who needed a portable swage block that could double as a light anvil. The idea is to build a stand that will accommodate it in multiple orientations that he can take on the road to blacksmith events. When I accepted this job I thought it would be simple but soon realized I didn't have the right tooling so I made the 2" ball nose end mill (see my other video...
Shop Made Ball Nose End Mill
Просмотров 55 тыс.4 года назад
I needed a two inch ball nose end mill to machine a couple dimples in an upcoming project so instead of buying an expensive tool that will likely never be used again I opted to make one from a bearing roller. I enjoy making my own tooling. This cutter was kind of a quick and dirty project, not much precision necessary, if I ever need a precision 2" ball nose end mill it will only require a bit ...
Shortcuts to straighter Threads with Dies! #tipblitz19
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
It can be difficult to cut straight threads with a hand held die holder but here's a couple tips. In this video I'll compare a standard cheap die holder to a die holder with a scrolling alignment feature. I also show a way to use a combination of lathe threading and a die holder to speed up threading without sacrificing straightness! Without a doubt the best way to cut threads is in a lathe sta...

That poor axe head is going to resemble a saw blade.
I extend my congratulations to Mr. Father, who has brilliant children
Beautiful job.
Do you ever feel in the pits with weld then sand it
Nice work! Makes me kinda jealous! Having access to a complete shop and the knowledge! I assume some father/mentor was somewhere around as you made it. What a blessing! I guess by now as this is 3yo, your mig welding must be just perfect.

Was there not a Part 2?
Menghina arată foarte bine la final, îmi place, dar lucrați imprudent, nu respectați anumite reguli de autoprotecție.La momentul 2.13, ați dus mâna peste polizor, iar piatra de polizor putea să vă prindă mâneca hainei.
I have a pair of these bolt cutters , mine are the larger size . But one of the cutting jaws has a big chunk taken out . Any suggestions as to how I should proceed to restore these cutters ?
Nice job boys
Thank you your video help me rebuild my leg vice.
It looks like a meteorite
I love to clean and restore Blacksmith tool. Ive reworked blowers. Build stands for blowers. Make tools. Im working on a forge now. Im using an old welding table for that. I need a top cut to finish it. Its a joy to do it. I dont know if ill ever get to work on my anvil or not.. but building and designing this has been a joy!!!
Looks wonky at the end.
Замечательные тисочки получились 👍
Thats awesome! Only thing is most of us plain joe's don't have a machine shop to make new parts like that.. Do another video with the existing parts restored.
Thank you for posting this very helpful video. I’m refurbishing a Morgan 200A woodworking vise which is not the same as yours but sufficiently similar to provide some very helpful tips on disassembly. I appreciated the close-up shots of the detail work, too.
Great job, love the hardie
Great build / restoration. Was this to replace the Black & Decker?
I already had a plan to fix it up but yes that's why I chose it as my next project.
Great restoration!! and very funny grinder failure ..... I laughed so hard.
Very good job sir
Freaking, AWESOME !
good job
great job gentleman
My question!! Where could I find a steel wheel like this
Well I happen to work at a mill that goes through these and I have access to the scrapyard. If you don't mind scavenging your local scrapyard might have stuff like this.
nice job! I just pick up a set of these No.1 but they are missing a bolt for the jaws.. not sure where I’m going to find one
Job Well Done Fellas!!
The dial rotates so you can zero it on any measurement. The fact that it came not dead on zero means nothing. Rotate the dial bezel until it is at zero.
You're a dip shit. I said that in the video. The point is that you'd think it would already be zero'd.

shortcut.......uses lathe.
Just a question, regarding the second die holder. When you use that type of holder, shouldn't you reverse the die, since most dies have a side that says start this side?
Yes that's right.
In loving momery of the bench grinder had me, class for including it. Can you restore it? Also, nice pipe vice.
Please let me know if there is a way to tell the age, as I just got one myself.
You did a great job on this! Thanks for sharing your work. 🙂
Looks wonderful. But where are the hammer holders? Like I said look and will work Great!
Jeez i cant afford a laithe. Not right now
What kind of wheel is this?
Great video fellows I just realized you never finished the other one I'd love to see a video. And I'd love to see a shop tour video of your guys's machine shop
That surface finish looks great. I'm turning some 1.125" 1045 at work and it's horrible. This is my first time messing with this stuff so that's why I'm looking at other's results
I usually run sandvik TNMG inserts with a .030" nose radius. For that size part I'd run 800 rpm or faster and I'd push the feed til the chips were dark blue and shaped like lower case cursive e's. If you can't get the chips to break small like that sometimes it means your spindle speed is too fast.
@@GreenridgeMetalWorks thank you
Ci metto i miei attributi li tirò su le incudini con una corda legate
I have just received an axe exactly like yours. It was found inside a tree. Guess who ever left it leaning against it and the tree grew around it. Could that axe be used if you wanted too? Good enough shape?
Absolutely usable. After I trimmed some of the edges it's fine. It was for a friend though and he wanted it for a wall hanger so it won't get used, kinda sad.
VERY NICE.
Nice job
I have this No.0 and a No.14 I want to restore and I’m confident I can do it after watching your video and others like it. What is the fix if my cutters/blades are pretty chewed up and the rubber stoppers have been cut away? Is there any adjustment? Will I be able to re-bevel the blades or do I need to find new ones?
You definitely can sharpen the blades and adjust them however you have to be careful to keep the angle correct in relation to the pivot pin or they will not close evenly. Thanks for watching.
@@GreenridgeMetalWorks are the adjustment screws the square bolts closest to the blades? Also another general question, when we are restoring tools often times there are pins that need to be punched out and replaced/reused and peened, what are the replacement parts I’m looking for….rivets, roll pins, steel dowls? I appreciate you getting back to me, it really helps. Thank you.
@@6atlantis yes those are the adjusters. I try to reuse the pins when possible. If not I just use a piece of welding rod or other soft steel wire or rod. I doubt anyone have replacement parts for these so you'll likely have to make your own parts.
@@GreenridgeMetalWorks thanks! 🛠️
I'm just guessing here but those two young fellows must be brothers and their dad is giving them a life skill that you're probably never going to forget plus the time spent with each other great job on both the anvils and the swag block😊
Yeah like some of the other guys said was really nice to see some young guys getting out there and creating something that they're probably going to enjoy the rest of their lives and actually getting outside and building something I realized you left the mic off but just seeing how the file reacted to the steel what break you guys managed to get a decent heat treat😊
Where's part 2?
This swage block is way above the quality of the overpriced cast ductile iron ones. Very elaborate approach. Time consuming project but with good machining skills worth it.
Good on you lads , hope you fellas have a lot old teachers because some day you too will teaching some snot-nose
Beautiful restoration of the bench grinder 🎉🎉
